Our Program

3-K & Pre-K Programs-Early Childhood Education

At District 31 Pre-K Centers we recognize that all children can learn, and it is our mission to encourage everyone to teach their full potential. We help children develop into lifelong learners by providing an exciting, fun preschool environment and a staff ready to assist them with their academic, social, and emotional growth. Our teachers work hard to prepare your child for Pre-K or kindergarten by introducing them to fundamental concepts in literacy and math, as well as nurturing their social skills and encouraging independence. The District 31 Pre-K Centers features 3-K and Pre-K programs. Our designated programs will help enhance children’s emotional and social development. The programs are based on the developmental approach to early childhood education that places emphasis on learning skills that are geared to each child’s stage of readiness and development. Early Childhood Education teaches children the core social skills needed for kindergarten and beyond. These skills boost children’s self confidence, increases their ability to build relationships with others, raises expectations, and helps them adapt to new environments. At The District 31 Pre-K Centers, we aim to build a solid foundation for lifelong learning and well-being.

The Creative Curriculum in Pre-K

We follow The Creative Curriculum Units for preschool in our Pre-K classes. These units support student learning in all domains using developmentally appropriate practice and provide opportunities for content exploration and skill building that are aligned with the NYC DOE Kindergarten Social Studies and Science Scope and Sequence. The Units assist teaching teams in nurturing inquiry, language and problem-solving skills through their organization of the classroom environment, interactions with students, use of purposeful play, incorporation of books, other texts, new vocabulary, and family engagement practices.

The Creative Curriculum in 3K

The Creative Curriculum provides instructional opportunities for 3-K for All students, teaching staff, and families to connect, explore materials, and learn together. The Creative Curriculum invites engagement in comprehensive, in-depth, play based learning across domains. Topics and activities begin with routines and the classroom community then progress to more abstract ideas throughout the year.

Special Education

Our special education classrooms and services are available at 1 Teleport Drive and 1275 Woodrow Road. Our program supports each child’s academic, social, and emotional growth.

Music

At the District 31 Pre-K Centers, we know that young children love musical activities. Play is extremely important and music is one of the best types of play to engage in. We believe that music exposes the child to challenges and multi-sensory experiences which enhances learning abilities and encourages cognitive development.

Gross Motor

At the District 31 Pre-K Centers, we believe that physical education is imperative for a healthy body. As early as preschool age, children can be introduced to indoor physical education games that promote gross motor skills, such as kicking, skipping, galloping, and running. Each of our sites are equipped with an indoor gym and/or an age appropriate outdoor playground. Students learn to follow oral directions and build social skills when playing games with their peers.

Literacy

We strongly believe that early literacy is the foundation to become successful readers and lifelong learners. The skills taught at District 31 Pre-K Centers will allow students to enter pre-k or kindergarten with a love of books and a readiness to learn.

Art

Process-based art activities our preschoolers to explore and experiment as a way to expand their creativity. Art is a natural activity to support free play in children. The freedom to manipulate different materials in an unstructured way allows for exploration and experimentation. These artistic endeavors and self-directed explorations are not only fun, but educational as well. Allowing students to focus on the product of their imagination is vital to their individuality.
